Sacrilege

Can we please talk about the Yeah Yeah Yeah's new album? More importantly can we take a moment to talk about how amazing Karen O is?
I was originally going to write about this in my zine (more on that soon) but I decided the time was now so here I go.
Karen O is actually the reason I got remotely excited about fashion. Before that, I pretty much didn't really understand or care about clothing. I was basically as wannabee disciple of Mike Jeffries *cringes* with really really low self esteem. Around March of 8th grade, a friend linked me to the "Heads Will Roll" video because apparently it was hilarious. I ended up becoming absorbed by it. It was incredibly unorthodox in comparison to my safe taste in classic rock (which by the way I still love). Karen O was basically the audacity of cool, in my highly impressionable mind she was more of an alien than a real person, a warped dream vision of human perfections. My obsession with Karen O wasn't at all sexual, instead it more of a found curiosity, a chance to change myself so I would hate myself a bit less. Essentially, a way outside of my less than wonderful journey through the second half of 8th grade.
Eventually, I sifted my way through the majority of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's discography. When I finally made it to "Fever to Tell" I entered what would be my prelude to feminism. Karen O's screaming and angst drippings made me feel weirdly empowered. "Date with the Night" is more shock factor then anything but I think that's why it's so rad.
Anyways, where was I going with this? Oh right, Mosquito, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's newest album. It's amazing. Although its not really as raw as their earlier stuff its safe to say its like butter to the ears aka makes me want to melt.

When it comes to style, Karen O dresses a lot like a deranged acid fairy. She's basically done everything from singing in just pasties and jeans to debbie harry approved shockingly short shorts to giant headdresses. Karen O actually doesn't give a shit about what people think about her. She's sexual because she wants to be, not because she's "asking for it" or wants people to think she's hot because SHE ALREADY KNOWS IT.

Queen of the Harpies

Dress and Sunglasses: Encore Vintage in Portland Maine. Belt: Express. Tights: Gift.

Hey internet!
My god, it has been far too long! I feel like you all haven't had the exciting opportunity to read my  sartorial indulgences in quite a while now. That being said, never fear: Here are some pictures of my face and my body and clothing.
The other day, my mom and I stopped in Portland Maine after a series of college visits (!!!). THE DREAM OF THE 90S IS ALSO ALIVE IN PORTLAND MAINE. This included eating falafel  and going to this manically organized vintage store downtown WHICH WAS UNREAL. If you're ever in Portland you need to go there because everything is perfect and not incredibly expensive. All of the vintage near me either smells like hamster pee or is 500 dollars so this was INCREDIBLY REFRESHING AND AWESOME. I came upon this dress and immediately was in luv.
This winter I went through a phase where I literally hated all of my clothes. I know this sounds super privileged but I was just really ~uninspired~ for whatever reason. The winter was really brutal so I pretty much just wore like, leggings and sweaters *cringes*. This winter I also spent absurd amounts of time complaining about I had no social life and how hard it is 2 b a gurl in da werld. Now that that period is over in my life I'm so happy n luv 2 liv and liv 2 luv!!!!! Just kidding (sort of).
In short, this dress made me not hate clothing again. I mean, its hard not to love clothing after having such "success".
As for aesthetics, I'm definitely moving towards the whole angry Grace Slick mod meets like really cheesy disco jumpsuits. Finding psychedelic prints and pairing them with platform heels and then proceeding to be angry is incredibly satisfying. I've been listening to a lot of Melody's Echo Chamber lately which has also influenced me to have more of a "60's underground" sort of vibe.

Mountains Beyond Mountains

I took some pictures of my friend Anna a couple weeks back for a series called "Mountains Beyond Mountains." I wanted to create a surreal David Lynch sort of world and add a Patti Smith sort of character. While shooting these I thought a lot about Arcade Fire's "Deep Blue" and Purity Ring's "Lofticries." Everything needed to feel hazy and dreamlike but also very vapid and harsh.

p.s: I'm still looking for Butch submissions! send everything my way by March 29th!

WEIRD GIRL TRIGGER

Comme Des Garcons FW 13 was a collection like no other. Rei took the conventional suit and made it to an artform fit for a mad man or perhaps more of an illusionist. Full of over the top bows and layers in eccentric prints made me feel  I was in a surreal  storybook. With a mix of beetlejuice, edwardianism, dadaism, and pop art bad boys it is safe to say comme was by far the best out of anything I've seen this season.
